Hedgehog Documentation

Learn how to use the Hedgehog quantitative analytics platform.

Quick Start

Here are a few things you can do right away:

Chart a stock price

  1. Click Start on the left side of the app bar, then click Chart.
  2. In the expression bar at the bottom of the window, type AAPL and press Enter.
  3. Apple's closing price series appears on the chart. Click and drag to zoom; right-click to reset.

Explore the instrument universe

  1. Click Start > Explorer.
  2. Select All Instruments from the starting-universe dropdown.
  3. Click filter buttons in the ribbon (e.g., Percentile, Category List) to narrow down the set.
  4. The flow map on the right shows how many items pass through each filter.

Build a dashboard

  1. Click Start > Dashboard.
  2. In the Home ribbon tab, click the Chart widget button to add a chart widget.
  3. Click the Spreadsheet widget button to add a spreadsheet widget.
  4. Drag widgets to arrange them on the page. Drag edges to resize.

Applications

Explorer

Browse and filter instruments, sectors, and other objects in the system.

Chart

Visualize time series data with interactive charts, annotations, and multiple renderers.

Dashboard

Combine charts, spreadsheets, and visualizations into multi-page presentations.

Table

Analyze groups of objects with configurable columns and calculated metrics.

Spreadsheet

Work with data in a familiar spreadsheet interface with formulas and formatting.

Calculator

Write and execute code in an interactive programming environment.

Date Set

Create sets of dates for use in charts, tables, and other analyses.

Getting Around

Start Menu

Click the Start button on the left side of the app bar to see all available applications. The Start Menu also contains links to Settings, Tasks, Help, and About.

Navigation Bar

Frequently-used applications — Explorer, Chart, and Spreadsheet — appear as icons on the left edge of the screen. Click any icon to open a new instance of that application.

Documents

All work in Hedgehog is saved as documents. Documents can be reopened, shared with other users, and linked together. You can find your documents in the sidebar, which shows a searchable list with type filters and sorting options.

Keyboard Shortcuts

Open Help from the Start Menu to see all available keyboard shortcuts. Common shortcuts include Ctrl+Z / Ctrl+Y for undo/redo and Ctrl+E to focus the expression bar in most applications.
